What a boring website......

Dry Hill hot whacked pretty bad by the storms in November so not much going on up there. The DH trails are all basically clear, they still need a good raking. The upper trails are still blocked with trees.

I'll try to rumage up a picture or two of new stuff.

Current Weather

Thursday: Light rain last night, clear this morning. Looking like rain tomorrow, light rain Saturday, no rain Sunday. Wouldn't that be sweet!!

Friday: Got a little more rain last night. Yesterday was dry and sunny most of the day.

Saturday: Rain last night, not now (6am) will probably update tonite but definitely first thing in the am.

Saturday pm: Rained off and on today. Trails are not very muddy, just leafy. They've been so dry it looks like they absorbed most of it. The skies are definitely thinning out, should be sick tomorrow. I will post 1st thing tomorrow in the am. BTW it will be chili and chowder for lunch.

Sunday am: no rain overnight. high ceiling I even see some stars!!

Work and Ride weekend at Dry Hill

This weekend, the 25th & 26th, we will be doing some much needed maintenance on the hill on both Saturday and Sunday which will surely be followed by some riding. Drop an e-mail or a call me at 477-9288 if you're into it.

Change of Plans

OK, so Dungy is out for me, and we have now settled on Mueller. It will be a mellow pace FYI

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Dungeness this Saturday anyone??

I am going to get my XC on this Saturday if anyone wants to go. I haven't ridden forever and don't know how my wrist is going to do??, but have a need for some alpine. The plan is to stay on the East side of the river and end on Gold Creek in a little different loop than the usual which may or may not involve a shuttle. E-mail if you want to go.

Hey Strangers...

Sorry for the lack of updates. Extenuating circumstances....

What do Dry Hill and cross-country riding have in common? Not too much really, but not for long. I spent last weekend clearing some of the XC trails up on the hill and some more time exploring a whole new zone prime for some XC goodness. A couple of small links and we will have a couple of nice loop options. My goal is having two very well marked loops, one short loop and one long loop, so keep an eye on the blog, one will be done soon. Anyone into throwing some dirt around, let me know.

The downhill stuff needs a bit of bushwacking as well.

A much needed break??

With th racing over until August, and th Hood Canal bridge closed, what better time could there be to break bones? Casey broke a couple of ribs and I (Scott) broke my arm. Whooppee!!!!

Trails need a lot of work right now as well, which makes the arm thing even more of a drag. I'm sure you have seen it already, but just in case, there was some great coverage from our last race at the following sites. Just search for ProGRT, or FRCup #2 at one of these.

Full Face Helmets Required

Saturday Schedule

OK so we added an hour to each of the practice times on Saturday which will move racing back about 2 hours or so. More practice= more fun.

Start yer mouth a watterin'

Here's the menu from our BBQ dude:
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings Blue Flame BBQ will have ready at 8am hot fresh donuts made on-site and Tully's coffee. The donuts will remain available till 10am. Lunch will consist of sandwiches as before as well as offering salad during lunch time for those who enjoy a meatless lifestyle. Lunch will be ready at 11:30 and go till food runs out. We will prepare for approximately 300 people. Dinner fare will be offered at 4pm, consisting of chicken or ribs with salad, pit roasted baby red spuds and cold drink. For those who prefer steaks and salmon, we will have on hand enough for about 50 people unless early orders cause for more supplies to be delivered . We should wrap up around 7pm .

Be sure to support him if you can, he's stoked to be a part of it all.

Some travel info.

Hood Canal Bridge closes May 1 for six weeks

Starting May 1, 2009, the Hood Canal Bridge will close to traffic so the WSDOT can replace the east half along with the east and west trusses. The construction, which will temporarily shut down the primary link between the north Olympic and Kitsap peninsulas, is scheduled to last six weeks.

If you can, come over on Thursday sometime before midnight and it will save you some hassles. The campground has a special for people in the next post. If I were you, I would try to negotiate a half rate or something with a hotel if that's your lodging choice. They should be receptive given the bridge situation.

The May-June the closure will be challenging for travelers, but the Olympic Peninsula will still be open for business. WSDOT encourages people to get ready now by reviewing their transportation options to determine the best route.

The new Hood Canal Bridge will be wider, safer and more reliable. New construction and retrofit work will extend the useable life of the bridge by 75 years and allow WSDOT to increase capacity by two lanes in the future without significant closures.

To learn more about the project, how to get ready for the closure, and the transportation options being offered in May-June 2009, visit www.HoodCanalBridge.com.

Wrap-up from FR Cup #1

Results are available here: www.fluidride.com/2009/04/09/fr-cup-round-1-results/#more-393

Thanks to everyone who attended our biggest and best event yet. Everyone was so patient with the turn-out it was a pleasure to work our butts off. Overall it was a sick and safe weekend of racing, with only one collarbone and a couple of scrapes. We love it when our EMT's are bored.

The BBQ man is going to add some more items to his list for next time, so if you have any suggestions, let me know. I asked him to get something in the $5-$6 zone. His food rocks and he is stoked to be a part of it so thanks for supporting him.

The next race is requiring us to make some scheduling adjustments so keep an eye for that. www.pinnedmtb.com has a great site for the ProGRT and you can click on the Fluidride Cup to get a lot of info in one spot.

Remember the bridge will be closing Thursday the 30th of April at midnight, so if you can, come over Thursday at some point. I will be working on our lodging providers offering some sort of deal to make this a little more economically feasable for you all. I'm going to try for a rate that makes a 3 for the price of 2 nights if we can.

Already working hard on the next one, hope my boss doesn't mind!!!

Updates

Blue Flame BBQ is taking over the food vending situation at the races, and it's the goods. He will be doing wood cooked pit pork or beef brisket sandwiches with killer beans and cornbread and a drink for $8! He may also bring rib eyes if you want a wood grilled steak instead. He's really stoked to be a part of the bike scene so definitely take the opportunity to support him. His restaurant is on the right just as you get into PA if you want a preview.

Online registration is now available for real on www.skibowl.com so save yourself standing in the registration line and sign up early. It will be much quicker.

Port Angeles Super-D Post-Poned

With great disappointment, ODS must postpone the Super-D race scheduled for Feb 22nd. I went up this morning to survey the snow situation, and it wasn’t good. We’re really bummed because we were stoked to turn people on to some other trails Port Angeles has to offer. Additionally, I went up to our back-up venue (the top of Dry Hill), and it was also impassable for any type of shuttle truck we could think of. The slight good news is that we will have more time to potential incorporate our race with Capitol Forest, which was talked about, but not set-up. Please keep an eye out for one in the future.

Location Change for tonights ODS meeting

The meeting tonight will be at Summer and Cara's house 3803 C ST. ext. If you need to be directed just give me a call 461-4674 - See you there !

Dirt Corps Follow-up

Finally we got to stretch out our downhill muscles, and mine are all sore. We had a great spring kick-off weekend for sure. Great dirt (and a little snow), good food, great weather, what more could you ask for? The dirt was too frozen to do any trailwork besides picking up branches, but oh well. Soon...in fact this weekend, I'll be up there moving a little dirt if anyone is interested.

Time to start planning the Super-D as well. Already a lot of interest, and we haven't even officially announced it yet.

ODS Meeting Summary

Well the Cornerhouse seemed to work ok, a bit noisy maybe? Anyhow, here's a quick summary of what happened.
-We talked about the gully on Hill Street, it's potential, etc. I am waiting to hear back from the city to see if we can do something legitimate
-We finally decided on a card design, which will be ordered on Friday. Hopefully we can get them by next week so we can get some people signed up. The stickers are on hold until we check the die-cut option.
-The Dirt Corps is coming over for a ride day on the 18th, weather permitting. Lars suggested that I try to get them out on the 17th for a little trail work party, and I will try to do that.
-I will be up on the hill both Sat and Sun in the am this weekend to start the storm clean-up process. If you have time, come on out. If you have a chainsaw or nice hand saw, bring it.
-We decided on the 22nd of Feb for the Super-D @ the Foothills. At this point, only Shawn and I have committed to putting this on??? We will be doing timed test runs as soon as the snow is gone on the Footy's.
-FRCup #1 is the first weekend of April.
-Spring Shuttler tentatively planned for March 8th.
-Tuesday rides seem to be on hold, Saturdays are in full affect.
That's about it.

ODS Meeting on January 8th

Same old meeting, new place.
Thanks to Lars, we are going to go to the Cornerhouse for our meeting Thursday. Long gone are the days when you could remember the meeting easily....Ricks @ 6. Now it's....the CorNerHouse at ?? 6ouse...or something. I hope this doesn't hurt attendance.

Directions: Go past Ricks (we all know where that is) on Front St. Continue to the next light (Oak Street) and go right or left. Continue on Oak and go either right or left depending on your previous decision. From there go to Laurel St and go either right or left. Continue until you see Rick's Place. When you do, either look over your left shoulder, or ahead and slightly to the right, and there it is. And oh yeah, I hope you like cheap beer!!!
